Ethan's son David continues to hold out hope that his father will arrive and at the same time hold his small group of family and friends together, even as sinister forces threaten to tear them apart and end their bid for survival through a cold, dark and desperate winter. Friendships will be tested, the bonds of family will be strained and it will require all the strength they have to overcome not only the threat of a deadly human enemy but winter itself.
